‘Woke’ politics and its consequences for sports lovers
Most of you would’ve read by now that US President Donald Trump has been banned from the major social media platforms, supposedly for inciting riots at the Capitol Wednesday.
On Friday, Twitter permanently expelled Trump from its platform, following the examples set by Facebook, Snapchat, Twitch, Spotify and others that used the riot as a common trigger to do what most of the big tech companies have wanted to do for years.
Whether you’re a loyal ‘Trumpist’ or a Trump-hater, this banning will have its ramifications and should have us all concerned, even every-day, easy-going sports lovers who don’t take a great interest in the worldwide political circus.
RT (Russia Today) news channel commented: “It wasn’t Trump’s on-platform conduct that was the problem, according to Twitter – it was “how [his tweets] are being received and interpreted on and off Twitter,” a post on the company’s blog declared on Friday.
RT added: “Logically speaking, it’s impossible for anyone – especially a public figure like Trump – to control how his words are being interpreted, or even who’s reading them to begin with. For Twitter to translate the president’s praise of his supporters and promise not to attend his successor’s inauguration into a call for violence requires a full-on break with reality.
“Platforms like Twitter, and especially Facebook, have been declaring all-out war on reality for years now. These platforms’ notorious echo chambers have no room for dissenting narratives, whether it concerns the Capitol protests or the growing contingent of Covid-19 dissenters crying foul as lockdowns drag on (and cases go up) with no end in sight.
“Social media, once sold as a tool for promoting democracy and giving ordinary people a voice they previously lacked, revealed its true identity over the course of 2020. Whether attempting to delete records of an entire event, as Facebook has done with the Capitol protests, or memory-holing inconvenient facts about the Covid-19 pandemic, the ‘new and improved’ reality crafted by the media establishment provides the ideal foundation for the police state being constructed around the human mind.
“The average person might go through life unaware this invisible thought-barrier is even there – but anyone who steps out of line is quickly zapped back into obedience. And if they refuse to cooperate even then? De-platforming, in an age where face-to-face contact has gone the way of the dodo, is the modern equivalent of ‘disappearing’ dissidents in broad daylight.
“Those who express (Orwellian) political ‘wrongthink’ online aren’t just disappeared from the digital public square – they can be barred from supposedly apolitical apps like AirBnB, or even denied the use of their bank accounts!
“(BigTech has) hundreds of billions of dollars at their disposal, and a user-base trained to embrace their mental slavery with a positively Pavlovian response.
Meanwhile Parler, the fast-growing alternative to Twitter, this weekend also ran into the Big Tech wall.
Parler CEO John Matze started: “(At midnight) on Sunday Amazon will be shutting down all of our servers in an attempt to remove free speech from the internet. There is a possibility Parler will be unavailable on the internet for up to a week as we rebuild from scratch.
“Amazon, Google and Apple purposefully did this as a coordinated effort, knowing that our options would be limited and knowing this would inflict the most damage right as President Trump was banned from the tech companies.
“Apparently they believe Parler is responsible for ALL user-generated content on Parler,” Matze said. “By the same logic, Apple must be responsible for ALL actions taken by their phones. Every car bomb, every illegal cell phone conversation, every illegal crime committed on an iPhone, Apple must also be responsible for!
“You can expect the war on competition and free speech to continue, but don’t count us out!”
What, you will ask, has the media and various powerful world governments’ pushing of the ‘woke’ agenda have to do with sports and racing fans?
Well, let’s look at an incident in US racing last week, something we reported on our website (www.internationaracing.club) yesterday:
The US Jockey Club issued a statement Saturday noting the 3-year-old gelding Grape Soda, a debut winner of Aqueduct’s opener on Friday for trainer Eric Guillot, will have his name changed due to it being “potentially offensive.” (horseracingnation.com).
The Jockey Club’s move comes after a social media post by Guillot — which has since been deleted — stirred racial controversy when the trainer noted the horse was named after a “TVG analyst” and included a black-fist emoji. Many on social media presumed this was in reference to TVG host Ken Rudulph, who is African-American.
Listen to this statement from the New York Racing Association: “NYRA rejects Eric Guillot’s toxic words and divisive behaviour in the strongest terms!”
Toxic and divisive? Huh?
Guillot, whose training career stretches to 1991 based on Equibase statistics, has since stated on social media that he is the “furthest from racist” and the name Grape Soda was a tribute to his favourite beverage as a child. The Louisiana native told Thoroughbred Daily News on Saturday he has retired from training. His career is destroyed.
In South Africa, just recently, their pathetic, virtue-signalling National Horseracing Authority fined trainer Frank Robinson R25,000, wiped his good name on their arses and shattered his business by finding, in essence, that comments he made during the Dewali festival could’ve been construed as racist, being offensive to Indian people.
“The human race is a shit race (for setting off crackers and harming animals),” Robinson, a dedicated animal-lover, posted on Facebook.
Shouldn’t God be suing Robinson if that comment was offensive? For goodness sake, what a joke!
The finding received wide media coverage, of course, with the NHA’s prompting.
This preoccupation with social and racial “injustices” seems to be going way, way overboard.
Just the other day in the US Congress, a prayer was closed with ‘Amen’ and ‘Awomen’, courtesy of a Missouri Congressman. (We kid you not!)
What lies in store for us?
If these orchestrated attempts at making individuals colourless, sexless, opinion-less robots are going to persist, we’ll all just get used to it after a while. We’ll be speechless, line-towing, Walking Dead creatures bullied into submission, the state that is so obviouskdesired by powers that be.
On the plus side, as lobotomised slaves we’ll be able to accept the changes that lie ahead in our favourite sports.
You, our readers, will be able to come up with many of your own examples, but in sports and racing, this is what may happen if opposing sides of the ‘woke’ spectrum decide to take each other on, step by silly political step:
*No more black horses allowed
*No more pure white horses allowed
*Grey horses allowed, t’s and c’s apply
*The colours black and white to be removed from owners’ racing silks
*The colour yellow may not be allowed on silks, potentially offensive to Chinese people
*The legendary mare ‘Black Caviar’ will need a name change
*’Winx’ will need a name change as its name suggests closing and shutting the eyes in trying to curry sexual favours
*Transvestites and cross-dressing jockeys will be allowed to compete in races
*Former jockey turned trainer, Douglas Whyte, will have to register a new surname
*Trainer Mike de Kock is potentially in a spot of bother, too.
*No more drinking “Johnny Black’ after a big betting win
*The white ball will be replaced with a neutral blue ball.
*All majors will include the top male and female players
*Under-the-breath swearwords and slurs will be more closely monitored than ever (advisor: Justin Thomas)
Hockey and Ice Hockey
*The black hockey puck will be replaced by a red one.
*The colour of ice will have to be changed.
*Away with the white and black ball. Potting pink and/or brown also under threat.
*All Equestrian Sports will be opened to straight people
*No black or white swimming trunks allowed.
*Doing away with the black screen
*Doing away with the white screen
*No white ball allowed, always a neutral red, perhaps against a light blue screen.
The “tickey” cannot be white, as mostly black lawn bowls are rolled in its direction and at times can knock it out of the lawn area into touch.
This has been a long read, apologies, but we trust it gave you some food for thought.
In closing, we bow again to IRC’s Golf Expert Warren Todd, who tipped Joaquin Niemann to finish in the Top 5 in the Sentry Championship, at 40-1! Niemann lost in a playoff to Harris English, and tributes have come in, many IRC Members took the loot.
Our promos’ last week read, ‘Ever heard of Joaquin Niemann?’ Nobody had. Todd, the golf bore, did. We stand amazed, we have no idea how he does it!
Enjoy your betting week!
